If you find our quotation for this insurance to be acceptable, you will be requested to complete a proposal, which provides us with information about yourself and your residence. Once completed and submitted, you will be advised immediately if your application has been approved. If approved, cover can be granted as soon as your payment has been processed.

The proposal forms the basis of the policy between you and the insurer and in the event that any information provided is found to be incorrect, the insurer may be able to avoid payment in the event of a claim. You should therefore ensure that all the information provided is correct to prevent such a situation occurring.

This insurance is only available to residents living in privately rented furnished accommodation, or accommodation provided to you by your employer. It is not available to anyone living in other types of accommodation, such as hostels or bed and breakfast establishments.

• How do I get a quote?
  You should select the Level of cover that gives a Sum Insured that represents the current value of all of your personal possessions not individually valued at more than £500. You then have an option to insure property valued at more than £200 anywhere in the EU or worldwide. In stage 2 you will be able to add personal possessions valued over £500 up to £1000 and also include laptops up to £1000. In stage 3 you will be asked to specify all personal possessions and laptops valued over £200. Once you have successfully moved onto stage 4, the quotation will be shown at the bottom of the page.
• Which items do I have to specify?
  Any item which is valued at more than £200 will have to be specified. Specified Items valued at up to £500 will be covered, provided the total of them is not more than half of the overall amount of the Level you select. These items can be specified in Step 3. For example: If you select Level 2 giving a Sum Insured of £3,000, up to £1,500 can consist of Specified Items valued between £200 and £500.
• Where are my Personal Possessions covered?
  The standard policy provides cover in the UK only. European or Worldwide options are available to extend the cover for Specified Items valued at more than £200 on trips of up to 30 days outside the UK. Your Travel Insurance policy may provide cover for less valuable items.
• Am I insured if I share my Accommodation with other people?
  Yes. But theft of property from your accommodation is only covered if your home is entered by forcible or violent entry. So you are not covered if you flatmate steals from you, or if the door is left unlocked.
• Does the policy cover property belonging to anyone else?
  No. Unless the other person is your spouse or is cohabitating with you as your partner and you have selected Levels 3 or 4 and the policy has been arranged in joint names.
• What about my Valuables worth more than £500?
  In Step 3, you will be given the opportunity to include cover for your individual valuables that are worth more than £500. The maximum total that you can select for such valuables is 50% of the Sum Insured for the Level chosen.
• What about my Laptop?
  No cover is given for Laptops under the standard policy, but in Step 2 you will be given the opportunity to purchase cover for Laptops worth up to £1,000 and this cover is in addition to the Sum Insured that you select under Levels 1 to 4.
• Can I be insured if I live in a hostel?

• Is there any excess to pay?
  Yes. An excess of £50 will be deducted from the settlement of any claim that you make under this policy. This helps us to keep your premium at a reasonable level. However, the excess is increased to £250 for claims made for water damage arising from escape of water from any apparatus or pipe at any premises comprising of a flat or maisonette.
• What items are not covered under the policy?
  There is no cover for Pedal Cycles, Mobile Phones or Documents. Nor is there any cover for things that you leave in the boot of a car for more than six hours. There are of course other terms and conditions that apply to the policy which is why we ask you to read it very carefully.
• What if my circumstances change?
  This insurance is accepted on the basis of the information that you supply on the proposal form at the time of arranging cover. You must inform us of any change in your circumstances otherwise the policy will become invalid. Examples of changes are: Change of Address, Change of Occupation, you obtain additional possessions valued at more than £200. Please note that we may make an administrative charge for any alteration that involves the issue of an amended Schedule.
• Will my Possessions be covered in my home if I go on holiday?
  Provided your accommodation is securely locked, your possessions will be covered so long as you are not away for more than 30 consecutive days.
• Can I cancel my policy?
  If you decide that you do not wish to accept the policy, you may return the documents to us within 14 days of commencement and provided no claims have been made, we will refund the premium to you. We reserve the right to deduct an administrative fee depending upon your reason for requesting cancellation. No refund of premium is given for cancellation after the initial 14 days.
